| Katja Sokolova (1977)
I'm a freelance producer and exhibition maker. I studied linguistics in St.Petersburg and cultural management in Moscow, Russia. I organized several exhibitions in public space and also worked for local television in St.Petersburg.
In 2003 I moved to the Netherlands. In 2004-2005 with a group of friends I ran East Area - a non-profit space for Eastern European artists, located in a former squat Fort van Sjakoo in Jodenbreestraat in Amsterdam.
In 2006 I organised the live programme (performances, installations) of the Amsterdam Film Experience festival.
I collaborated with visual artist Irina Birger on Inhalexhale- a web-based gallery for contemporary art, fashion and sound
Currently Irina and me worked as guest curators of the Gastarbeider Dating project at Mediamatic, Amsterdam.
I worked on ThankEve's documentaries Small nations, big games, Pyotr - letters from the gulag, NEformat and the short film Inside Outside as a producer, translator, researcher, interviewer. Also I tend to play myself in some of these films...
Click here for a list of non-film related projects I worked on over the last couple of years.
