Jan Jaap Kuiper (1976) I direct, and sometimes shoot and edit, documentaries and short films. I graduated from the Dutch Filmacademy in 2008 with the documentary Pyotr - letters from the Gulag, which won the VPRO documentary award, a "wildcard" from the Dutch Filmfund and was selected for the IDFA student competition. I also have a Masters degree in contemporary Eastern European History from the State University of Groningen (graduated cum laude in 2001) and speak Russian, Dutch, German and English. Next to making films I also build websites, mostly for the great Dutch filmdistributor Cinemien. Since 2001 I run ThankEve Productions together with Gerhard Stoel, later joined by my wife Katja Sokolova. ThankEve produces documentaries, short films, exhibitions, websites and everything in between, with a strong focus on projects in or about Russia and Eastern Europe.
