Part IV: New Technologies or Reminiscences of the Future | <<<

In this film, American photos of the 1940s and 50s - pensioners, the streets of New York, spring rain - are used in an almost nostalgic way. And this "other" America doesn't correspond with the country we used to learn about from the news. In some ways the work resembles club video where the moving image acts as a background while people dance, chat and perhaps, for a second, catch a glimpse of the screen. Consequently, what remains in the viewer's mind is an incoherent succession of accidental video imprints which don't add up a to single narrative. In this work such an incoherent representation is at odds with the inherent drama of the content.
