Maxim Iliukhin. Connecting

Maxim Iliukhin. Connecting. 2001, DV, 1 min 54 sec

The surveillance of the internet by Russian Special Services is a topic that is constantly discussed by the press, who speak about Putin's keen interest in the subject. Connecting can be read as a simplified and ironic commentary on these discussions. From another perspective, the work can be said to owe something to The Matrix. Here the protagonist also disappears into a spectral media-world just as contemporary politicians often do, becoming little more than shadows on the TV-screen for most citizens. In this way, a feedback loop is created with cinema influencing reality and changing our perceptions of life.
