Dmitry Bulnygin. Lola

Dmitry Bulnygin. Lola, 1999, DV, 2 min 25 sec

The setting is a typical soviet-era apartment. There is a carpet on the floor, a big brown wall-unit and a TV-set in the corner. A man wearing a T-shirt but no trousers wears a balloon on his head. He stubbornly and foolishly skips around, dancing to Marlene Dietrich's famous rendition of Lola. One might recall the same "indecent" dance performed by King David before the Ark of the Covenant to the indignation of his wife. In this instance the invincible artist's performance is damned not only by his wife but also sparks the anger of his neighbours.
